Where Were You Born

Please note that this calculator will not work for some people. Social Security numbers were not even available before 1935. With Executive Order 9397 issued in 1943 numbers were set up as the only identification system for individuals. For more information on the history of Social Security please check out their website at http://www.ssa.gov/history/history.html

Thanks goes out to Don Richardson of Pearland, Texas for point this out with an email from him:

One of your selections "Where Were You Born?" asks for the first three digits of your SSAN and comes up with your state. We are 64 years old. My wife's SSAN begins with 078, which yields NY as an answer. She was born in Michigan and moved to NY when she was about 7. In those days you didn't have a SSAN until you had your first job. You had to be 16 years old which would have been in about 1954 for us and by that time she had moved to NY.

Thanks Don!
