Calculator Help:
All triangles have three sides. This calculator allows you to find a missing side length when you know the other two sides of the triangle. This calculation is done by using Pythagorean's Theorem which states that a2 + b2 = c2, where c is the largest side. To use this calculator please enter the two side lengths you know into the calculator and leave the third field blank.
Uses:
This calculation can be used to determine the perimeter of a specific triangle, to solve standard math and geometry problems, and for "real life" situations, such as determining how many feet of fencing is needed to fence a triangular shaped plot of land!
History:
Pythagoras, who lived in Ancient Greece (400-500 BC), was a mathematician, who used logical reason (deductive reasoning) to develop and prove theorems for geometric functions. In fact, his "School of Pythagoreans" is considered to be the 1st documented source of logic and deductive thought (cause and effect) in the world.
